We’re Building an Expansion to the Hanover Trolley Trail!
York County Rail Trail Authority marked the beginning of a 2.1-mile expansion of the Hanover Trolley Trail on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 with a photo session attended by state, county and local elected officials and representatives of key local funding agencies. Photograph (above) shows the rail corridor to be converted to trail as part of the current expansion project. Project will include grading; installation of stormwater/drainage systems; laying of trail subsurface and surface; and installation of fence, gates, signage and other trail amenities. A PA Department of Conservation & Natural Resources Keystone Grant, matched with local funding from Explore York, Memorial Health Fund, and the County of York, were awarded to the Rail Trail Authority to meet a project cost of $1.7 million. Map (below) outlines the Rail Trail Authority’s development plan to extend the Hanover Trolley Trail along an 8.5-mile rail corridor(bold green line) purchased in 2020. 2022 Phase was completed and opened to the public in May 2022. 2023 Phase is now under construction with a projected completion date of January 2024. Funding is currently being sought for 2024 Phase. Additional sections will be converted from rail corridor to trail as funding becomes available.
